Recognition

The content of this course is similar to the one we have been teaching in-house since 1993 for government recognised qualification (ITEC). Students who subsequently went on to sit the ITEC examination all succeeded. We had a 100% pass rate. Please note that ITEC no longer recognises correspondence courses and as such, we cannot promise you an ITEC examination after the course.

This course is to prepare you for a subsequent qualifying course or for you to learn Massage for Friends or Family.

How will it be studied?

There are two distinct areas of study in Massage:

1. The theory of Massage - this can be learnt in the comfort of your own home
2. The practice of Massage - Here is how we will teach you:

• You are able to see the strokes again and again - in slow motion or freeze frame if your playback equipment allows it
• Once you have practiced and know the sequence, you may visit us so we can iron out any problem you may have.
• A charge of £45 per hour is levied for this and if you have done your home work properly, only a couple visits are necessary
• We supply you with a video and you can play the sequence and practice as often as you like in the comfort of your own home

To study the Theory, we will supply you with :

• A program in .EXE format (readable from any computer supporting Windows 3.1/ 95 / 98 / 2000 / ME/ XP or greater)
• The program is extremely simple and intuitive to use
• Numerous diagrams
• Tests - to be completed

• Contra indications to Massage
• The history, theory and philosophy of body Massage·
• Swedish Massage / Oil / Holistic
• Massage medium - oil and talcum powder
• Designing a consultation card
• The Holistic approach- treating the whole person
• Psychological and physiological effects of Massage
• Mechanical Massage theory
• The theory about the various classical movements - therapeutic value of each : Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement, Hacking, Cupping, Kneading, Vibration and Friction.
• Designing a leaflet
• Professionalism, ethics, patient support, hygiene and steralisation, clinic organisation and management, equipment
• Client care and Modesty- Towel draping
• How to set up a practice
• Home visiting
• Record keeping
• Taking case histories
• Definition of Massage
• Various laws and the therapist

Content of the Practical course :

• A complete sequence of body Massage including - Face, neck, front of shoulder, abdomen, front and back of arms and legs, upper thighs, back
