Sun benefits are numerous. Do not be fooled by the multimillion dollar campaigns run by the cosmetic and drug industries telling you how dangerous sunshine is. 

These two industries are getting very rich promoting their,  sometimes harmful, skin protection systems and they do not want you to know the real benefits of sunshine.

Expose Yourself To The Sun Gradually

Expose yourself to the sun with caution. Only 15 minutes the first day and Increase by a few minutes every day. This will give you maximum sun benefits.

Your skin will produce between 3,000 and 20,000 of vitamin D when exposing yourself to the sun. This variation is due to factors such as your skin color, where you live, how fat your are, etc..

A couple of useful oils that will help protect your skin as long as you do not overexpose yourself:


  1. Monoi oil that provides protection against the effects of sun, wind, sea or pool water on your skin.
  2. Coconut oil protects the body from sunburn and skin cancer without blocking the beneficial UVB radiation.

These oils can be used before and after exposure.

What Is In These Sun Creams You Buy?

Scaremongerism targeted at the sun is mainly to make you buy sun related products.

Sun creams work in 1 of 2 ways:

  1. Physical sun filter such as talc, titanium or zinc oxide
  2. Chemicals such as methoxycinnamate, paro-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), bensophenone…

The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) said that PABA may be carcinogenic. Further research said that it causes genetic damages to skin cell DNA.

According to Livestrong, "PABA contributes to the release of oxygenated free radicals, which "Clinical Dermatology" says can lead to deepened skin pigmentation in the best of cases and skin cancer in the worst of cases.

eHow states: Para-amino-benzoic acid, more commonly known as PABA, is a sun screen agent that is now shown to promote cancer in users.

According to "Introduction to Medical-Surgical Nursing," the liver is affected when PABA is consumed in amounts equal to or greater than 8g. When this amount of PABA is consumed, the liver loses its ability to function properly, which can ultimately lead to liver failure, according to "Foundations of Nursing." Liver failure leads to death without prompt medical care, according to "Introduction to Medical-Surgical Nursing."

Would you really want to use such a dangerous chemical?

When using a sun cream, you are blocking a perfectly natural function of the sun that your body desperately needs for the absorption of Vitamin D and for good health.

A Sun Protection Factor of 16 blocks 99% of beneficial UVB rays and forbibs any vitamin D absorption.

As of 2014, it was reported that the "holes in the ozone layers" only affects Antarctica in the south pole. There is no direct sunlight there this is why the ozone layer is thinner.

The north pole is only affected during certain weather conditions".

Vitamin D: One Of The Major Sun Benefits

You can get your vitamin D through sun exposure once your body has converted sunshine into a metabolically active form (poto-conversion). 

I would strongly recommend you spend 10 to 15 minutes every day in the sunshine without any sunscreen.

Optimal vitamin D intake is the most important health discovery of the past decade.

Statistics in 2014 reveal that 80% of Americans are Vitamin D deficient.

Your body generates vitamin D from the sun UVB rays. The optimum time to get these is when the sun is higher than 35◦ in the sky.

Twelve noon, as such, would be the time of maximum vitamin D generation.

Best time to expose yourself to the sun

The amount of sunshine in the country you live in will determine how often you get vitamin D from the sun. Country no further than 35◦ from the equator will receive vitamin D all year round.

If you live in northern latitudes, your skin doesn’t make any vitamin D from November through to March. This applies to the northern two-thirds of the U.S., to the United Kingdom and to Ireland (see map below for other countries).

The amount of skin you expose to the sun will determine the amount of vitamin D you receive.

The color of your skin is important. The darker your skin is, the less vitamin D you receive. African American people have a natural SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 8 to 15.

Overweight people will less be able to use vitamin D from the sun as some of it would be stored in the fat.

It takes twice as long to absorb vitamin D when you are over 50.

An examination of 506 US regions found that cancer mortality was higher when there was less exposure to the Sun.

There are 13 malignancies that show this inverse correlation: reproductive, digestive cancers. The strongest inverse correlation is with breast, colon, and ovarian cancer. Study at UCSD (University California, San Diego) suggests some 600,000 cancer cases a year due to D deficiency. 

A study published in the American Cancer journal indicates, exposure to the sun actually decreases cancer rates.

Skin Cancer in Norway & Finland (months of darkness during the year) is ten times higher than on Mediterranean countries where the sun shines frequently and there are more illnesses.

Those who work under artificial lights have the highest incidence of skin cancer. Those who live outdoor at high altitude near the equator - where the sun is strongest - have the lowest.

A ten year study of navy personnel showed that those with outdoor duties had a lower incidence of skin cancer.

In 1982 Dr Shaw published in the Lancet (UK medical journal) that office workers had twice the incidence of deadly cancer as people working outdoors.

Women who do not get enough Sun often suffer from Menstrual problems.
