JoEllen Welsh, a researcher from the State University of New York injected vitamin D in a female's breast cancer cells. Within a few days half of them were gone.

Vitamin D proved as efficient at killing cancer cells as the Tamoxifen drugs, but without all the nasty side effects and at a very affordable price.

Recommended Intake  Of Vitamin D

At present, the IOM (Institute of Medicine) advises on 600iu (international units) of vitamin D daily if you are under the age of 70 and 800iu if you are over 70.

These recommendations are far off the mark.

Numerous health care practitioners recommend a daily supplement of 5000 IU if you have been suffering from low levels of vitamin D or if you live in one of the countries NOT highlighted yellow on the map below.

If you get proper sunshine and expose yourself at least 10-15 minutes each mid-day, a supplement intake of 1000 IU is commonly prescribed by most health care practitioners and this is what I take.

Vitamin D2 or D3

The most beneficial is vitamin D3 that occurs naturally in animal food and is what you get from the sun. It is easily used in the body. This is the one you should buy as a supplement (see right column to order).

A study on 94,000 participants showed vitamin D3 to be three times better overall than D2. It is 87% more efficient at keeping vitamin D concentration and stores two to three times  more vitamin D than D2.

A recent study in Australia revealed that a third of under-25s are vitamin D deficient"

Some problems caused by a vitamin D deficiency:

  • higher risk of cancer

  • HBP (high blood pressure)

By far, the most important source of vitamin D is the sun.

Most people who do not expose themselves to the sun are deficient.

You need caution when exposing yourself to the sun and this page explains it all.

Foods That Contain Cancer Fighting Vitamin D

Fish

Some important facts:

  • Vitamin D is oil soluble and you need fatty food to absorb it.
  • Tinned fish in oil have more vitamin D than those in water.

Many fish are high in vitamin D.

It is to be noted that raw fish, such as those used in Japanese sashimi and sushi, contains more vitamin D than cooked fish.

  • The fish with the highest vitamin D content is the Atlantic Herring when eaten raw. It provides 2996 IU per 100g portion.
  • Tinned in oil salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna also have a high vitamin D content. 3½ oz of cooked wild salmon will give you 90% of your daily requirements
  • 3½ oz of mackerel will serve 90% of the vitamin D you need
  • 3½ oz of wild caught tuna is enough for 50% of your daily need
  • One tin of sardines kept in oil will provide 70% of your daily vitamin D - also full of vitamin B12, omega 3, selenium and protein
  • Other food high in vitamin D:
  • Oysters, 100g will provide 232 IU
  • Caviar at 232 IU for 100g serving
  • Shitake mushrooms that have been dried in the sun

Cod liver oil is extremely rich in vitamin D and omega 3 - if you don't mind the taste.

I would NOT recommend these if you suffer from cancer

  • Eggs - only a small vitamin D amount
  • Beef Liver 
  • Cheese
  • Egg yolks
