This "Sample Macrobiotic Diet" page will concentrate on the cooking of beans.

Cancer feeds on protein so if you are suffering from this disease, only consume beans up to a quantity equal to approximately 10% of the volume of food you eat.

Sample Macrobiotic Diet: The Different Beans

Adzuki beans and pumpkin

These are my favorite beans with lentils. They taste creamy if cooked property, and can even be turned into a pudding.

Adzuki beans help intestinal transit.

Cook them

  • Soak one cup of organic adzuki beans for three to five hours
  • Soak a 1" square piece of dried kombu for five minutes  
  • Cut the kombu into smaller pieces
  • Add the kombu and two cups of chopped pumpkin to a pot
  • Add the adzuki beans on top of the squash
  • Cover with filtered or spring water, and cook on a low flame for about one hour, or until the beans and pumpkin become soft 
  • Make sure you don't run out of water. The beans should remain covered during the cooking
  • Add a pinch of sea salt towards the end of the cooking 
  • Turn off the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes before eating

White Bean Salad

Best cooked in a pressure cooker, otherwise, use a pot with a heavy lid.


  • Soak a 1" square piece of dried kombu for five minutes  
  • Cut the kombu into smaller pieces 
  • Add the kombu and 2 cups of white beans (navy beans OK) to a pot
  • Cover with water 
  • Cook until soft (approximately 50 minutes). Make sure you don't run out of water
  • Add a little sesame oil to a skillet and heat it
  • When hot, add the onion, a little sea salt and cook for a couple of minutes
  • When ready, mix the beans and onion together in a separate bowl
  • Add the parsley and a bit of umeboshi vinegar (organic apple cider vinegar could also be used)
  • Mix the lot, let it cool down a bit and serve

Lentils with squash

Macrobiotic Lentils recipes

This is my favorite bean recipe.

If red lentils are used, this can turn into a lentils, carrot, onions pate.. Very tasty and ideal for snacks.

  • Soak a 1" square piece of dried kombu for five minutes  
  • Cut the kombu into smaller pieces
  • Add the kombu and 1 cup of lentils to a pot
  • Add 2 cups of squash that has been cut into manageable pieces
  • Cover with spring or filtered water
  • Bring to the boil and cook the lentils are soft (depending on the lentils you use this will vary from 20-60 minutes)
  • Make sure you don't run out of water
  • When cooked, add a little shoyu (gluten and sugar free soya sauce) to season
  • Simmer for a few more minutes
  • Serve with scallions

Sample Macrobiotic Diet: Fried Tofu And Vegetables

Macrobiotic Fried Tofu And Vegetables Recipe

Tofu dictionary definition:

"A soft, white food made from soybeans and often used in vegetarian cooking instead of meat" 

A thorough analysis of twenty eight studies on Chinese adults has shown that the absorption of tofu reduces the risk of at least one cancer type (stomach cancer) than intake of soy in general.


  • Press half block of organic tofu to remove the water and slice
  • Heat some sesame oil in a skillet (do not use a non-stick saucepan)
  • Add the slices of tofu and deep-fry until golden brown on both sides
  • Place on paper to drain
  • Slice the tofu into strips
  • Add some water to a pan and add some shoyu (natural soya sauce), and the tofu
  • Simmer for 10 minutes
  • Heat the skillet on a high flame and add a little oil
  • Sauté the following vegetables quickly until they are bright and crispy starting with the Chinese cabbage then some cooked peas and finely cooked corn
  • Add the tofu and mix with the vegetables.
  • Season with shoyu and ginger juice
