Jo Ellen Welsh, a researcher from the State University of New York injected vitamin D in a female's breast cancer cells. Within a few days half of them were gone.
Vitamin D proved as efficient at killing cancer cells as the Tamoxifen drugs, but without all the nasty side effects and at a very affordable price.
At present, the IOM (Institute of Medicine) advises on 600iu (international units) of vitamin D daily if you are under the age of 70 and 800iu if you are over 70.
These recommendations are far off the mark.
Numerous health care practitioners recommend a daily supplement of 5000 IU if you have been suffering from low levels of vitamin D or if you live in one of the countries NOT highlighted yellow on the map below.
If you get proper sunshine and expose yourself at least 10-15 minutes each mid-day, a supplement intake of 1000 IU is commonly prescribed by most health care practitioners and this is what I take.
The most beneficial is vitamin D3 that occurs naturally in animal food and is what you get from the sun. It is easily used in the body. This is the one you should buy as a supplement (see right column to order).
A study on 94,000 participants showed vitamin D3 to be three times better overall than D2. It is 87% more efficient at keeping vitamin D concentration and stores two to three times more vitamin D than D2.

By far, the most important source of vitamin D is the sun.
Most people who do not expose themselves to the sun are deficient.

It is to be noted that raw fish, such as those used in Japanese sashimi and sushi, contains more vitamin D than cooked fish.
Cod liver oil is rich in vitamin D and omega 3 - if you don't mind the taste.
